Lined Work Jacket for Shorter Men
Since this was my first order with Abbreviated, I wasn't sure how their clothes ran, so I ordered an L and an XL of the lined work jacket, walnut color.
As soon as I took them out of their package, I could see what a high-quality jacket they both were. The outer fabric, inner liner, zippered breast pocket, inner pocket, etc. The jacket and collar colors were really sharp. I was SOOOOOO excited to keep the one that fit the best and return the other.
Unfortunately, the L was too snug around the waist (I'm about 5'8"and about a 35 waist. I could feel the snugness around the waist and knew that it looked too small for me plus I could never wear layers (i.e. hoodie) because the jacket would then not fit at all.
I then moved to the XL but was really discouraged when the sleeves were much too long. I prefer that jacket sleeves end at about the wrist. The L ended halfway down my palm, which was acceptable, but not ideal. The XL's sleeve ended by my knuckles which was completely unacceptable. For too many years I've had to "settle" on jackets that had sleeves that were too long and either folded the sleeves or had them altered at my expense. That's why I've said "NEVER AGAIN!" and shop at stores like Abbreviated, Ash & Erie and Peter Manning, for shorter men. The XL fit me perfectly around the body, but sleeves that were way too long.
In conclusion, the L was too snug around the waist (my fault that I like to eat too much ;-)) and the XL's sleeves were way too long. Honestly, Abbreviated should offer these L's and XL's with shorter sleeve lengths. Otherwise, they are catering to normal-sized men and this is NOT what this store is supposed to be.
However, I think this jacket will fit those that are smaller and slimmer and you shouldn't have issues with the waist or sleeves. Seriously, I think this is one of the best jackets I've ever seen and tried on and that's why I was soooo disappointed to have to return both. Unless you're about my size, I'd suggest you run to place this order. I'm 100% certain you'll love this jacket. Super-impressive quality and style by Abbreviated. I'm just sad I couldn't find one that fits me.

Fit can be tricky, especially since two people of the same height and weight can have different proportions. We design our jackets specifically around shorter men, but unfortunately there’s no single sleeve or body proportion that will work perfectly for everyone. In fact, we’ve also heard from some customers that they’d prefer the sleeves to be longer.
To help with that, we provide detailed garment measurements on each product page, including sleeve length. For any future purchases, we’d definitely recommend comparing those measurements against a jacket or shirt you already own and like the fit of. It’s the best way to account for individual proportions before ordering.

Probably the first jacket I've ever really loved wearing! Fits perfectly to my body and size and I love the style! Wish there were variations of this type of jacket, I'd probably buy them all!
The fit is exactly what I was looking for: sleeves ending around the wrists and a cropped length. However, the perfect fit comes with a cost. You lose a lot of mobility with this fit. The jacket feels very durable and well made but at the cost of elasticity. I washed the jacket as instructed (cold wash, air dry) but it altered the color of my jacket. From a uniformed gray color throughout the jacket is not covered in white streaks after the first wash. Still usable but may be a dealbreaker for others.

What you’re seeing with the white streaks isn’t permanent. It’s just a quirk of how canvas dries. If you run it through another cold wash, then smooth out the wrinkles with your hands and let it air dry, the streaking should even out and the color will return to a more uniform look.

My favorite part of the jacket is the lining and you can’t even see it when worn. I also love the thick cardboard tag because it shows this brand cares about the little things. The jacket fits very well and I stayed true to size. I could’ve sized up but I don’t plan on wearing a hoodie underneath often so XS is the perfect relaxed fit. Also, due to the stiffness of the fabric, the jacket tends to billow out when worn unzipped so I’m glad I stayed true to size. My only issues are the outside and inside chest pockets. I think the outside chest pocket is a bit too small in XS. It fits my phone but I can easily remove it because it sticks out. With my wallet, I had a little trouble trying to remove it. I don’t have big hands either. The zipper also makes the pocket opening smaller. For the inside pocket, I feel like it sits a bit too high. When I take my phone out, it seems like I’m hitting the top of the phone to the jacket shoulders.
This jacket will make you look extremely handsome - I know because I bought it. I weigh about 160 ish and can still wear it comfortably, but I would size up if you’re heavier. I’ve always wanted one of these but other brands never fit me right.
I love the is jacket! I’m 5’6 200lbs and I got an xlarge. It fits perfectly! It’s beautiful and comfortable!
Last year I got the Stone color. I liked it so much I've impatiently waited for another color. The Chestnut arrived today and the quality is equally impeccable with dark green lining. It's just the right shade of brown. There's enough room to wear an Abbreviated fisherman sweater underneath to. These jackets would look good on anyone and made to last.

I always struggle finding the right lengths and fits with jackets since being a short guy that works out a lot, and this was the perfect fit and durability. I’ve tried many brands and this one honestly fit the best
Runs perfect for my size. First time I wore it a colleague of mine said how much she loved the jacket and said my wife must have bought it for me
The fit and proportions are excellent for a shorter frame, and the overall construction feels solid. Love the bigger chest and shoulders for layering without making the jacket longer. One of the main reasons I purchased it was the 100% cotton shell and 100% cotton lining, which is a big plus.
My main criticism is the shoulder and upper-back mobility. I think this jacket would benefit greatly from shoulder gussets or an action back. When reaching forward or moving your arms around, you can feel some restriction through the shoulders. Adding gussets would make the jacket much more comfortable and functional without changing the overall look.
Aside from that, I really like it. The style is clean, the proportions are right, and the cotton lining feels great. I would highly recommend it, especially for shorter guys who have trouble finding work jackets that fit properly.
Purchasing anything at my size is a gamble, especially outerwear, but to my surprise this jacket wasn’t only high quality but also fit perfectly in body and sleeve length. The extra room in the chest and shoulders is very nice as well for someone of a smaller stature that also lifts weights. Very happy with this jacket and hope to see the company make more outerwear in the future.
I typically buy one new jacket a year. Last year I got the blue version of this and love it. Thrilled when they dropped the brown version. Had to grab it for this year. It wears in lovely. Cropped and just the right length. The sleeves fit perfectly, which never happens.
The overall jacket design is very nice! However, there was some noticeable discoloration after the first wash despite following the wash instructions. The angle of the jacket in the trapezius area is also a bit large, which could result in the illusion of a smaller frame. These are just observations from my experience, but the jacket quality seems very good otherwise, and I really appreciate the work your team is putting in!
Really nice jacket. Originally bought a Small but it was too snug. Exchanged for a Medium, and there were some shipping issues that were resolved after a couple of emails. Can definitely feel the quality in materials. I am short but athletic and broad chested. I think I will be wearing this jacket quite a bit this fall and winter. I kind of wish I waited for the new walnut color though, it looks amazing. Will wait for a sale for that possibly.
